Secret fears of getting into the phase of pregnancy or motherhood is endless. The fear of losing the independence, getting back the original you, need of sacrifices, environmental influences, getting away with a dent in a career and the list goes on. All of this whisked with Covid-19 worsens the situation, and the mental health of a women goes for a toss even before she is pregnant.

It is crucial for a mother-to-be to have positivity around. Talking to friends and well-wishers is a blessing to start with. Mom-to-be-groups within your own neighborhood, where people can wave at each other during an evening walk is of great strength.

Experiences of each mom during the trimesters are different, however, the care and needs mostly remains the same, unless there are other associated medical complications that needs to be addressed.

Restlessness is common and it stays even after the child is born as additional responsibilities pour in. Even with the postpartum/postnatal issues, it’s important to stay calm and beat the anxiety and depression with confidence. At this new phase of life, the support from doctors, loved ones and friends are always an additional advantage for any new mom. It’s important to have help at home and we must ensure that we as ‘new moms’ take out time for ourselves, even if its few minutes a day or just a five-minute coffee-break!

A child is a blessing, and motherhood, the best teacher of life where we not just learn, but also transform!
